This isn't a night about fixing yourself. It's about understanding what you're actually up against- and learning how to quiet it.
Dr. Michelle Morkert has spent 20 years studying why capable, accomplished women question themselves- and it's rarely because something is wrong with them. In this session, Michelle flips the script on imposter syndrome. Instead of treating it as a confidence problem you need to fix, she'll show you the hidden social and organizational dynamics behind it- so you can stop blaming yourself and start leading with more clarity.
Kai Cox will show you how to quiet the outside noise long enough to hear what you already know to be true. In this session, Kai shares simple daily practices- rooted in body awareness and intentional living- that help you release the "have-to's," recognize your own signals before they turn into burnout, and make decisions from alignment instead of pressure. You'll leave with tools you can use starting the next morning.
Together, they'll help you leave with a clearer read on your own voice, and the confidence to actually trust it.
What is a Grateful Connections evening like?
CIRCLES OF CONNECTION
Let's be honest about what this isn't: it isn't a room where you're handed a drink, pointed toward a crowd of strangers, and left to fend for yourself. It isn't a stack of business cards you'll find in your bag a month later, attached to a face you can't quite place. And it isn't "networking" in the way that word usually makes your stomach drop.
If you've never been to one of our events, here's the simplest way to put it: this is an evening built for meeting a few real people, not a room full of them. Everything about the night- where you sit, who you sit with, what you talk about, when you move- is guided and designed on purpose, so connection happens naturally instead of being something you have to work up the nerve to chase.
Here's what that looks like in practice:
* You're never walking in cold. From check-in on, there are easy, built-in ways to start talking to someone- no forced icebreakers, no standing alone with a plate wondering who to approach.
* You're seated with intention, not left to find a seat. You'll draw into a small table of women you haven't met yet, so the first connection of the night is already made for you.
* You'll have something real to talk about. Our speakers give the whole room shared language and shared stories- so table conversation isn't "so, what do you do," it's "did that land for you the way it landed for me."
* You'll meet more than one table's worth of people. Partway through the evening, you'll move to a new table, so the night isn't limited to whoever you happened to sit near first.
* We'll have a roster of those who are in attendance so you know who is in the room and who you may like to connect with.
This is Circles of Connection: our name for an evening that's about genuine connection and real conversation, not transactions. It's for anyone who'd rather leave with two honest conversations than fifty forgettable ones- including, maybe especially, if the word "networking" usually makes you want to stay home.
Business owners ready to stop second-guessing every decision
Women who want practical tools, not more pep-talks
Anyone craving a room full of people who actually get it

Dr. Michelle Morkert is a Fulbright Scholar and PhD in gender studies who has spent over 20 years researching womenβs leadership around the world. She studies the systems, rules, and frameworks that shape how women work, lead, and live. She calls it the patriarchyβs playbook. As a professional speaker based in Chicago, Dr. Michelle brings this framework to women in government, business, nonprofits, and NGOs throughout North America and Europe. Everywhere women work, the playbook is operating. Her work helps women see it, name it, and lead anyway.

Kai Cox is an entrepreneur and holistic guide who helps people quiet the noise so they can reconnect with themselves, trust their inner guidance, and build lives and businesses that are deeply aligned with who they truly are. Kai has spent over 15 years helping individuals recognize the subtle ways their bodies, minds, and inner wisdom communicate. Kai is passionate about creating spaces where meaningful conversations happen, authentic connections are formed, and for people to discover their unique Realm of Brilliance.

Hi- I'm Malinda
Founder of Grateful Connections, and a die-hard cheerleader for women in business. During my 25 years of corporate healthcare sales career, I dreamed about working for MYSELF instead of some large corporation, and for almost as long, I told myself that keeping "entrepreneur" as a someday-fantasy was safer than actually trying and maybe failing.
I tried things on the side for years- different businesses, different ideas- none of which stuck enough to let me walk away. Then about three years ago, corporate life stopped being something I could suck up and push through. It felt more transactional than I could handle, more hurdles than tools, and the thought of starting all over at another company made me feel like my insides would shrivel up. I just could NOT do it. So I gave my notice, and the golden handcuffs came off for good.
As a true extrovert and photographer, I needed to get out to network and meet like-minded women. When I looked at the networking groups already out there, most of them only let in one of each kind of business owner- one photographer, one realtor, one everything. Since I really believe in collaboration over competition, I decided to build my own community and personal branding photography business instead. That's Grateful Connections: a place built on Comfort, Connection, and Confidence- for women figuring out their own definition of success through gatherings, education, and branding photos that help them connect with their ideal client.
